Biography

Chandra Krown was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. As a child she competed at a national level in gymnastics. She started performing professionally as a dancer 11 years ago.

She first trained at the Main Dance intensive professional training program and has since trained and performed internationally. In 1997 Chandra created and launched XtravaDance Productions, a dance performance company based in Vancouver. She is most interested in delivering site-specific dance to a broad audience and has choreographed, performed created 'dance for screen' in parks, beaches and various environments.

Chandra is an interdisciplinary artist. Her passions include improvising, dance, aerial dance, contact dance, singing, songwriting and choreographing 'for the screen'. Recently she completed a tour of the USA with Mortal Coil Performance Society's "Lava and Bones" show where she danced on stilts and performed in a 14' T-Rex Costume on stilts.

Chandra has been an aerial dancer with Aeriosa Dance since 2004. Currently she part of Project Bandaloop's Training group in San Francisco and also is part of Jo Kreiter's aerial dance workshop. She had previously been to San Francisco via a Canada Council grant to train in aerial dance with Flyaway Productions and spent a few year in San Francisco training in modern release technique with, mentor, Kathleen Hermesdorf at ODC, as well as Joe Goode at the Marsh, and Robert Moses at the San Francisco Dance Center. While there she created a dance video entitled X becomes Y which utilizes nature settings as choreographic elements. In addition, she was an Artist In Residence at Infinite Kaos Performance Space and performed in the Pilot 40 performance at ODC Theater where she presented the dance/vocal piece 'Home' that she choreographed and created.

Chandra is currently living in California again. She has been writing songs and singing for the last 4 years and has performed at various venues in The Bay Area and in Vancouver. Last yearshe attended VCC's music program majoring in Jazz and Contemporary Voice.

Outside of her artistic projects, she spends her time with her beautiful 14 year old daughter.
